EVERY SECOND COUNTS

Rapid Deployment Water Systems for Disaster Relief

When an unexpected disaster strikes, every second counts. Delays in humanitarian aid can mean the difference between life and death.

Most disaster relief equipment is built into or deployed using large shipping containers, trailers, or bulky platforms. These containerized systems, although robust and effective, are not suitable for air transport due to their size, weight and handling requirements. As a result, such systems must typically be transported by sea or overland routes. Inability to airlift critical water, power and communication systems to disaster-stricken areas creates a dangerous gap in today’s relief operations, especially when roads are blocked or seaports are destroyed.

Regrettably, this exact scenario took place in Western North Carolina in the fall of 2024. The powerful flooding from Hurricane Helene created an unforeseen combination of tragic events. First responders, disaster relief equipment, and critical supplies were unable to access disaster victims in a timely manner due to severe roadway erosion, terrain challenges and mudslides blocking all pathways. All equipment or supplies had to be flown in by helicopter or taken up the mountain by 4-wheeler causing life-threatening delays. The Hydronamis Disaster Relief Device (DRD) was developed to aid in this exact scenario.

The DRDs are intended to be dispersed throughout challenging hard-to-reach areas. The compact, portable design features easily allow for rapid deployment options by plane, helicopter, pickup truck, boat or drone. This all-in-one solution helps sustain life in high-risk conditions, providing essential resources directly into the heart of the disaster zone; helping families, rescuers, and aid workers stay alive and operational, immediately.

That’s why major disaster relief and humanitarian aid groups such as the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC), Doctors without Borders, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), American Red Cross, International Rescue Committee (IRC), NGO’s and emergency response teams are turning to Hydronamis, to help save more lives, faster.
