Is the DRD water safe for drinking?

Yes. The DRD is designed to produce high-purity potable water suitable for human consumption when used according to standard operation guidelines.

Output varies by model and water conditions. The DRD is available in configurations capable of producing approximately 150 – 450 gallons of drinking water per day from contaminated surface water sources.

The DRD can support approximately 225 people at 2 gallons per person per day, or up to 450 people at 1 gallon per person per day in a 450 GPD configuration. It can also provide essential power for communications, lighting, and select medical equipment depending on system load.

The DRD is designed to purify a wide range of surface water sources, including rivers, lakes, ponds, floodwater, ditches, brackish water, and seawater (model dependent).

Yes. The DRD is available in a dedicated desalination configuration (DRD-SW) capable of converting seawater into safe drinking water.

Yes. The DRD is designed to process heavily contaminated surface water, including floodwater. The advanced filtration system removes sediment, contaminants, chemicals, heavy metals, and pathogens to produce high-purity potable water.

Yes, absolutely. In a severe crisis, a swimming pool is a massive asset—it represents thousands of gallons of contained water right on your property. However, stagnant pool water quickly fills with dangerous bacteria, heavy chemical treatments, stabilizer (cyanuric acid), and high levels of chlorine.
The Engineering Advantage: Traditional consumer-grade survival filters cannot remove dissolved pool chemicals or harsh chlorines. Yes. Water output and filtration load can vary depending on source water quality, temperature, and operating conditions. The system is designed to maintain performance across a wide range of environmental conditions.

The DRD is engineered for challenging environments and can process highly contaminated water sources. However, extremely poor water quality may increase maintenance frequency and reduce filter lifespan. If these are your normal operating conditions, we strongly advise you to choose the MBBR bio-reactor upgrade option.

No. The DRD is a tool with endless possibilities. Since the DRD produces a surplus of power the standard practice is to utilize electric water transfer pumps that plug directly into the waterproof outlets. Use the power of the device to move untreated water hundreds of yards, pumping directly into the DRD intake system. A person may gather contaminated water via. containers or buckets and pour directly into the intake funnel. A further example is to link an untreated water cistern tank/bladder to the DRD intake port as well. On the reverse side, you can use the surplus power of the DRD to pump the potable water into a storage tank, water distribution stations, bladder, or even a water tower. This approach allows users to position the DRD independently of the water source location, providing maximum deployment flexibility based on the circumstances.

Yes. Model dependent, the system includes integrated clean and raw water storage tanks designed to support continuous operation and field deployment requirements.

Brine waste, also known as RO (reverse osmosis) discharge water, is the concentrated stream of impurities that is separated during the purification process. As the DRD filters contaminated water, dissolved solids, salts, and other contaminants are rejected by the RO membranes and expelled as a small waste stream, while purified water is collected. This is a normal and necessary part of high-efficiency reverse osmosis operation.

Water Purification Technology

What kind of filtration technology does the DRD use?

The DRD utilizes a multi-stage purification process that includes a series of step-down sediment pre-filters, copper-zinc redox, ultrafiltration, activated carbon, reverse osmosis, and dual chamber ultraviolet sterilization to remove contaminants and produce high-purity drinking water. Depending on the model, certain configurations also integrate our advanced MBBR bio-reactor (BR) which uses proprietary beneficial bacteria and enzymes to treat heavy contaminated surface water sources, reducing maintenance while increasing the lifespan of membranes/filter cartridges by 300%.  

The DRD removes or significantly reduces sediments and turbidity, bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, dissolved solids, salts, and a wide range of chemical and organic contaminants, including pesticides, herbicides, PFAS, and industrial compounds. Power Generation & Battery System

How does the DRD generate electricity?

The DRD uses high-efficiency monocrystalline solar panels to generate electricity, which is stored in an onboard LiFePO4 battery system. An integrated inverter then converts the stored DC power into standard 120V or 220–240V AC power for everyday use.

The DRD utilizes a premium 5.4kWh LiFePO4 battery rated for approximately 6,000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge (DOD), which typically equates to 8–15 years of service before replacement is required, depending on operating conditions and usage.

No. The DRD is designed to provide power for critical loads rather than serve as a whole-home backup system. It can support essential equipment such as refrigeration, communications, medical devices, lighting, and small appliances during outages or off-grid operation.

High-demand appliances such as central air conditioning, electric heating systems, water heaters, electric ranges, and clothes dryers are generally beyond the intended scope of the system. Available power will also depend on operating conditions and daily water production requirements, as water purification consumes a portion of the system’s generated energy.

Yes. Refrigerators and freezers are among the primary applications the DRD was designed to support. Actual runtime will vary based on energy consumption, solar conditions, water production requirements, and other connected loads.

The main DRD rapid solar panel deployment array typically generates 2.2 – 2.5 kWh per day. When paired with the optional external solar panel array, total daily production increases to approximately 4.4 – 5+ kWh per day, depending on geographic location, weather conditions, and available sunlight. The system is equipped with an integrated 60-amp solar charge controller to maximize charging performance.

Yes. The DRD supports external solar expansion through a waterproof expansion port and an upgraded charge controller designed to handle increased solar input. Is it safe to use the DRD indoors?

Yes. Unlike fuel-powered generators, the DRD produces no combustion emissions during operation, making it safe for indoor use. The main unit can be operated and positioned indoors, while the external solar panels are placed outdoors and connected via. extension cable to allow efficient charging and operation in a wide range of environmental conditions.

Yes. The DRD includes in-use waterproof power outlets with GFCI protection that can be reset if tripped. The system is designed for continuous operation even in wet weather conditions, including heavy rainfall.

Yes. The main DRD housing is engineered to withstand hurricane conditions; however, operation in such conditions is not recommended. The rapid solar panel deployment system can create extreme uplift forces that may cause instability or damage. For human safety and system protection, the solar array should be stowed, and proper securing procedures should be taken prior to severe storm events.

No. The DRD is specifically engineered to operate in hot environments. The system incorporates a thermostat-controlled cooling system that helps regulate internal temperatures and protect sensitive electronics when ambient temperatures rise. The bright-white enclosure was also intentionally selected to reflect solar heat, helping keep internal components and stored water cool during operation.

Operation in below-freezing conditions is not recommended. However, the main DRD housing can be operated indoors in cold environments, while the external solar panels may be placed outdoors. This configuration helps prevent water from freezing and reduces the risk of potential damage to filtration components.

The DRD is built around a TIG-welded aluminum chassis with thick aluminum exterior panels, stainless steel hardware, and waterproof gaskets. Its rugged, IP-66 rated construction is designed to withstand harsh weather, transportation, impacts, and demanding field conditions for decades.

Like any electrical and water treatment system, the DRD must be operated according to the safety guidelines provided in the operation manual. When used as intended, the system is safe, with multiple built-in safety features to support safe operation in both emergency situations and everyday environments.

Potential hazards or health risks can arise in extreme conditions or improper use, such as submerging the unit in floodwater, operating it on unstable or steep terrain, or cross contaminating the clean water system. For this reason, proper handling and adherence to the operator’s manual are essential.

How difficult is the DRD to operate?

The DRD is very easy to operate and designed for use by individuals or local users without any technical expertise. Once deployed, the system runs autonomously, producing clean water and generating power with minimal user interaction. Basic operation and routine upkeep can be handled by local personnel.

No. The DRD is designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind and can be operated by individuals with minimal technical experience. Each unit includes a comprehensive operation manual with step-by-step instructions to support safe and effective operation.

The DRD is designed to be low-maintenance and field-serviceable. Most routine maintenance is associated with the water purification system and includes periodic filter cleaning, replacement cartridges, inspections, and preventative care. The integrated solar power system requires minimal maintenance under normal operating conditions. A comprehensive maintenance manual is included with every DRD purchase. Filter lifespan depends on several factors, including source water quality, operating conditions, DRD model, filter type, and usage rates. As an example, a 5-micron MB sediment filter may require replacement every few months under typical operating conditions, while an RO membrane may last several years before replacement is needed. The DRD incorporates reusable/washable cartridges in the early stages of treatment to help extend service life and reduce operating costs. Actual service life will vary based on water quality, environmental conditions, and system usage. System maintenance requires zero technical training. The DRD is built for simplicity under high-stress conditions, allowing you to clean or swap components quickly.

Easy, Tool-Free Access: You simply unscrew the filter housing sump to gain instant access to the cartridge inside. It is straightforward to swap parts or clean a clogged filter right in the field.

Washable Pre-Filters: The heavy-duty pre-filters are entirely washable and reusable. If they get clogged by debris, you just wash them off and reinstall them to restore immediate flow.

Disposable Membranes & Filters: Several of the filter cartridges & RO membranes are disposable elements. When it is time to replace them, simply place an order on our e-commerce store, and we will ship a new set directly to your door.

Extended Lifespan Option: Adding our optional MBBR bio-reactor treats the water before it hits the mechanical filters. This significantly extends the operational lifespan of your disposable elements in remote zones.

Yes. Replacement parts are stocked in ample quantities and available through Hydronamis support and service pathways.

The DRD is designed for field serviceability, with key internal components accessible through removable service panels to support maintenance and replacement. If an issue occurs, customers can submit a support request, and our technical team will provide prompt remote assistance and diagnostics.

Replacement components can be shipped as needed, and users are guided through the repair process step by step. Where required, on-site technical support can also be provided. Does the DRD have Bluetooth capabilities?

Through the mobile app, users can view key performance data in real time, including solar power generation, battery status, charging activity, energy consumption, and system output.

Manufacturing, Quality & Lifespan

Is the DRD manufactured in the United States?

Yes. Each DRD unit is made to order in our custom manufacturing facility in Central Florida, USA; where it is designed, engineered, manufactured, assembled, and performance tested prior to delivery. The system incorporates a low percentage of electronic and solar-related components that are sourced internationally through our trusted partners. 

The DRD is engineered for long-term operation in extreme environments, with a design focus on multi-decade service life under proper maintenance. Key structural and external components are non-ferrous and finished with powder coating, anodizing, or passivation to support resistance to UV exposure, corrosion, and harsh weather conditions.

Operational lifespan will vary depending on deployment environment, system care and usage intensity. Inland environments may easily achieve multi-decade performance, while coastal or high-salt environments may experience reduced service life due to accelerated corrosion exposure.

Inside each DRD crate includes a plentiful supply of replacement filters and consumables, along with Operator and Service manuals, spare seals, fuses, basic service hardware, and a high-quality TDS meter for water quality monitoring.

Warranty & Support

Does the DRD come with a warranty?

Yes. Each DRD includes a two-year limited warranty.

Each DRD includes a two-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. During this period, Hydronamis will provide replacement parts at no cost, including shipping, and may dispatch a qualified technician if on-site service is required, anywhere.

In addition, specific components carry longer coverage periods: the lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO) batteries and fixed-frame solar panels are covered for five years.

Do you offer accessories or support gear for the DRD?

Do you sell the DRD to homeowners or private purchasers?

How long does it take to manufacture the DRD once ordered?

All DRD systems are made to order and typically require 6–12 weeks prior to shipment, depending on configuration and production schedule.

For domestic shipments within the contiguous United States (Lower 48 states), standard LTL freight delivery typically ranges from 3–6 transit days. International shipping timeframes vary depending on destination, customs clearance, and selected transport method. Air freight generally ranges from 5–20 days, while ocean freight typically ranges from 35–70 days or longer, depending on routing and port conditions.

The DRD is shipped fully assembled and ready for deployment. Each unit is secured in a palletized plywood crate with multi-layer protective packaging to ensure safe transport. Delivery is handled by a qualified carrier selected by the customer in our checkout process, typically via. LTL freight for domestic shipments. Basic tools will be required to open the crate upon delivery.
