Location: Kassanda, Uganda, Africa
Problem:
The children at Wakata’s Orphanage Foundation are suffering without access to clean drinking water or electricity.
Their only water sources are two very small ponds that are heavily contaminated. The children drink from these ponds daily. To reduce sickness, they attempt to boil the water over wood or charcoal fires, which consume what little money they have for food, clothing, school supplies, and basic necessities. This process is also very time consuming, reducing their education, business, and food potential.
The orphanage operates with extremely limited resources, and the children remain vulnerable to waterborne disease, malnutrition, and preventable illness.
No access to clean drinking water. No electricity. No refrigeration.
No reliable lighting.
No internet.
No stable infrastructure.
Goal:
To protect and transform the lives of these children by providing:
- Safe, clean drinking water
- Reliable solar-generated electricity
- Refrigeration for food and medicine
- Lighting for safety and evening study
- Internet connectivity for education and opportunity
- Tools for food growth and long-term sustainability
This is not temporary relief. This is life-changing infrastructure.
Community Profile:
Wakata’s Orphanage Foundation serves vulnerable children in Kassanda, many of whom have lost parents due to poverty, disease, or regional instability. The children range from toddlers to teenagers and live together in a modest structure with minimal furnishings and limited supplies.
Daily life is marked by resilience. The children help collect water, gather firewood, and assist with cooking. Meals are scarce, simple, and inconsistent. Without refrigeration, food must be eaten immediately or not at all. After sunset, darkness limits productivity and study time.
Despite these hardships, the children remain hopeful for a brighter future.
Access to clean water and electricity would dramatically reduce disease risk, improve nutrition, expand learning opportunities, and provide a new sense of hope and stability where it is desperately needed.
